New
"How to Guides"
To support our
recently launched training services we've also introduced a new bi-monthly
"How to Guides" feature. These useful "How to Guides"
will be available via e-mail and will feature procedures for a range of
common tests. Each guide will give you step-by-step instructions, supporting
photos and handy tips on how best to perform each test. We hope you find
them useful.
Using
a Checkit Comparator
Checkit comparators
are a low cost, robust and effective tool to determine multiple parameters
including aluminium, ammonia, bromine, chlorine LR/HR, chlorine dioxide,
copper, DEHA, iron LR/HR, molybdate, nitrate HR, nitrite LR, ozone,
pH, phosphate LR/HR, silica VLR/LR, sulphite LR, Zinc.

10ml plastic cells, crushing rod, disks and comparator
Instructions.
Guide
| |
Step
1
Take the comparator unit
and with it facing you insert the appropriate disk. Make sure the
disk is inserted with its parameter name facing you.
|
 |
| |
Step
2
Only use
the plastic 10ml cells with the hazy side facing you. The Checkit
comparator range is designed for use with the hazy side facing forwards.
Important
- Do not use other cell types, using other types will affect the
accuracy of the test. |
 |
| |
Step
3
Remove caps
and fill both cells to the 10ml mark with the sample to be tested.
Cap one
cell only, this is to be used as the BLANK. |
 |
| |
Step
4
Place the
capped cell (the BLANK) in to the left side of the comparator. Ensure
the cell is placed in the comparator with the hazy side towards
you. |
 |
| |
Step
5
Take the
other uncapped cell containing the SAMPLE and add the test reagents
as instructed (see Kit Instructions). |
 |
| |
Step
6
After adding
the reagents to the SAMPLE cell, replace the cell cap.
Now place
the SAMPLE cell in to the right side of the comparator. |
 |
| |
Step
7
Follow the
Kit Instructions and time the addition of the reagent as required.
When ready, hold the comparator towards a light source. |
 |
| |
Step
8
To obtain
the result - whilst holding towards the light source rotate the
comparator wheel until you obtain a colour match, then read the
result in ppm in the bottom right of the comparator. |
 |
| |
Step
9
Record the
result then rinse cells thoroughly with clean water, store discs
and cells safely in plastic bags. |

Tips for Best Results
Prolong disk
life - keep discs in plastic bags to avoid scratching and to keep dry.
Only use plastic
10ml cells that have clear and hazy sides, using other cells will affect
the result!
Always use cells
with the hazy side facing towards you when placed in comparator.
Always use lids
when mixing, and rinse thoroughly with clean water to avoid contamination.
